Individuals may come to spend a few hours or a number of days in private prayer and reflection. A limited number of private rooms are available.
For group use, we have simple, rustic accommodations is our ‘House of Silence’ dormitory. A small oratory and a larger contemporary chapel are at hand for group and individual use, and the wooded grounds are spacious. Meal service is available.
Groups may bring in their own retreat masters or arrange with the friars for a directed retreat.
Mount Carmel Center is open to anyone with a desire to grow and learn from the rich Carmelite tradition of prayer and contemplation. Our goal is to form good friends of Christ. Rooted firmly in the Catholic contemplative tradition as exemplified by the great Carmelite Doctors—St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Thérèse of Lisieux—the friars live and teach the life of prayer and spiritual growth.
Mount Carmel attracts people from many Christian denominations who are seeking guidance in the life of prayer and who wish to join others in search of the Absolute. No other organization in this area of the country provides quite the same level of serious reflection on the life of contemplative prayer and the works of the great Carmelite Doctors.
