The first Carmelites were a group of Crusaders who, at the end of their military service, remained in the Holy Land, pledging allegiance to Jesus, as their one true Lord. They lived as a community of hermits on Mt. Carmel, a place associated with the prophet Elijah. They constructed a chapel on the site, dedicating it to the Blessed Virgin Mary. They became known as the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mt. Carmel, or "Carmelites."

Fr. Stephen Sanchez, O.C.D.
Program Director, Mount Carmel Center

A native of San Antonio, Fr. Stephen is still trying to get used to the cold weather of the metroplex. He is warmed by the reception and support he has received during his tenure as Superior at Mount Carmel Center.
Fr. Stephen brings a big intellect, a loving heart, and a great belief in the transforming power of God. Another gift is his fluency in both Spanish and English.

Fr. Jerome Earley, O.C.D.
Superior, Mount Carmel Center

I was born and raised in the land of Hiawatha (you know, New York State). After the long period of being educated (or something like it), I entered the Discalced Carmelite Order, was ordained a priest in 1995, and am now the Superior at Mount Carmel Center in Dallas, Texas. Unlikely to suffer a blood martyrdom, I expect to die of the usual causes. Gratefully yours, however, in all things big and small.
