This will be a general introduction to the spirituality of St. John of the Cross, examining some of the primary themes and images that drive his works and understanding of our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. You may bring your lunch&stay for personal prayer until 4 p.m.

The Song of Songs

This conference will be an examination of St. John of the Cross’ spirituality as presented in his commentary on his poem ‘Spiritual Canticle’ as well as John’s commentary on the ‘Song of Songs.’ You may bring your lunch&stay for personal prayer until 4 p.m.

Thorns and Roses

This will be a study of the influence of the writings and spirituality of St. John of the Cross on his spiritual daughter St. Therese and her understanding of Discalced Carmelite spirituality. The spirituality of St. Therese’s ‘little way’ is much deeper than commonly thought. You may bring your lunch&stay for personal prayer until 4 p.m.

John and the Indwelling Presence

Wednesday, October 27th or Saturday, October 31st from 10am-12pm
Fr. Jerome will examine the Catholic theology of the Indwelling Presence of God in the soul as found in the spiritual theology of St. John of the Cross and how we may use this spirituality as part of our own journey to God. You may bring your lunch&stay for personal prayer until 4 p.m.

Advent Morning of Reflection: The Romance of St. John of the Cross

Saturday November 20th from 10am-12pm
Fr. Jerome will lead a series of reflections on the understanding of Advent based upon the spirituality of John of the Cross’ ‘Romances.’ You may bring your lunch & stay for personal prayer until 4 p.m.

Letters of St. John of the Cross

Fr. Stephen will lead an examination of some of the letters of St. John of the Cross to point out some of the consistent theology in John’s personal life as that which is found in the ‘large’ works of this Doctor of the Church. You may bring your lunch & stay for personal prayer until 4 p.m.
